ETH Zurich and the University of Zurich have been inviting the public to Scientifica since 2011. This public event in the buildings of the two universities quickly became the largest science festival in Switzerland, with hundreds of participants and over 20,000 visitors. It takes place every two years and is dedicated to one theme each time.

Whether at exhibition stands or in workshops, whether at laboratory tours, in panel discussions or short lectures: The focus is on the exchange between researchers and teachers and visitors. They communicate their fields of activity in an attractive and comprehensible way. All age groups are infected by their enthusiasm for science. Scientifica is particularly popular with families thanks to the special offers for children.

The city of Zurich has been a partner of Scientifica since 2021. Together with the two universities, it organizes the “Science and the City” series of events in the week before the event. Individual events take place at various locations in the city, with ETH and UZH researchers as well as employees from Zurich city departments and companies taking part.
